Cadillac XT5 2026: An Old-School Flavor

2026-05-14

For the past few years, Cadillac has been introducing ultramodern new vehicles packed with cutting-edge technologies and designs that look like they came straight out of a science-fiction movie. I'm certainly not against looking toward the future, but Cadillac is one of those brands whose success is deeply rooted in long-standing traditions. The XT5 SUV may be aging, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. It proved itself a long time ago, and it remains a highly appreciated vehicle today thanks to its simplicity, comfort, and build quality.

The Cadillac XT5 doesn't really bring anything new for 2026 as the model is nearing retirement. That's not necessarily a bad thing either, because it's a vehicle we appreciate exactly the way it is.

Lineup and Pricing

The lineup is divided into three trims, starting with the Luxury model, which carries a base price of $54,925. This version is remarkably affordable, especially considering it comes standard with front-wheel drive. Next is the Premium Luxury trim, which starts at $66,525. Finally, the Sport trim sits at the top of the range with a starting price of $73,725.

Category and Competition

The 2026 Cadillac XT5 competes in one of the most competitive segments in the industry. Luxury compact SUVs are more compelling than ever, offering advanced technologies and breathtaking performance. The XT5 doesn't exactly follow the current trend, but it's a model with character that delivers exceptional comfort.

Rivals: Acura RDX, Alfa Romeo Stelvio, Audi Q5, BMW X3, Buick Envision, Genesis GV70, Jaguar F-Pace, Land Rover Discovery Sport, Range Rover Evoque, Lexus NX, Lincoln Corsair, Maserati Grecale, Mercedes-Benz GLC, Porsche Macan, Volvo XC60.

Design and Technology

What I like about Cadillac is that there's no mistaking the brand's origins. Its vehicles look unlike anything else on the road, and some designs — including the XT5's — are nearly timeless. The American automaker's SUV features a bold styling signature with slim headlights and sharp body lines. It's a model designed to age gracefully.

Its cabin may not be as modern as the interiors found in Cadillac's newer SUVs, but the XT5's dashboard remains highly elegant nonetheless. The quality of the finish is impressive, and it's a vehicle that truly makes you feel like you're behind the wheel of a symbol of success and opulence.

Performance

The 2026 Cadillac XT5 offers two powertrain options, starting with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. It produces 235 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. The engine is paired with a 9-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive comes standard, while all-wheel drive is available as an option.

The American SUV is also available with a 3.6-liter V6, the kind of engine that has become increasingly rare in this segment — and that's a real shame. Here, output climbs to 310 horsepower and 271 pound-feet of torque. Once again, a 9-speed automatic transmission is part of the package. All-wheel drive comes standard with the V6 engine.

Weak Points

Its cabin isn't as modern as those found in Cadillac's newer models.

Strong Points

Without a doubt, it's one of the most comfortable and enjoyable SUVs to drive in its segment. The V6 engine is simply legendary. It still turns heads even after several years on the market.

Signature Element

The Cadillac XT5 offers us a comfortable present rather than an imposed future.

Final Thoughts

I don't think you'll be surprised to learn that 2026 is the final production year for the current-generation Cadillac XT5. Some people will say that's a good thing, but I find it rather sad because it's one of the last vehicles of its kind. Unlike newer-generation SUVs, the Cadillac XT5 isn't defined by technology or visual impact. Quality, refinement, comfort, and the overall driving experience are what continue to make this American SUV so appealing, even if it's no longer completely in tune with current trends.
